STUDENTS in the Lower School may enroll in a private violin/viola lesson program that takes place during the school day.  Two ensembles will meet weekly for one period immediately after school and will be included in the cost of the lessons or will be available to other students for a fee.  We urge you to enroll promptly if you and your child are interested, as space is limited.  Please complete the Lower School String Program Registration Form available on the Download Forms page of this website.
THE SCHOOL DAY ROTATION PROGRAM works as follows:  Lessons will be taught between the hours of 8:30 and 3:00.  Each lesson will be 30 minutes in length, and student lesson times will rotate in half hour segments through the day.   For example, student A will have his or her lesson from 8:30 - 9:00 the first week of school, 9:00 - 9:30 the second week, 9:30 - 10:00 the third week, etc.  With this program students will miss only 30 minutes of any class once each semester.

ENSEMBLES will meet from 3:00 - 3:45 on Wednesday afternoon for all students.  The string ensembles are open to all lower school students who play a string instrument whether they study through the rotation program, in after-school lessons at D-E, or elsewhere.  Students will be placed in one of the ensembles by the faculty in September.

W. Post College of Long Island University.  Ms. Gibson received her Master of Violin degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where she was Concertmaster of the orchestra.  She graduated magna cum laude from East Carolina University and was a member of the scholastic fraternity Phi Kappa Phi.  An active performer, she is the founder and leader of The Herrick Trio and has been in the Iceland Symphony, the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway.  She is also a poet and author, having recently published her memoir, Hanging by a String.
ANNALIESA PLACE, VIOLIN

… joined the D-E faculty in 2002.  She graduated from the Peabody Conservatory and is currently studying at The Juilliard School with Robert Mann.  Other teachers have included Vasile Beluska, David Russell, David Updegraff and Victor Danchenko.  She made her solo debut with the Heidelberg Symphony at the age of twelve and has since appeared with the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Concert Artists of Baltimore and the Peabody Symphony.  She has appeared widely in the United States and Europe as a chamber musician.  In 2001-2002 Ms Place performed recitals at Carnegie Hall's Weil Hall, the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center, and at Alice Tully Hall.  This year she will perform the Brahms' Concerto with the North State (CA) Symphony.  She began her studies in a Suzuki program at the age of three and has been trained as a teacher in the School for Strings teacher training program.
ELEANOR SCHILLER, VIOLIN

...began teaching at D-E in 2002.  She received her Master's Degree in music education and violin performance from The Manhattan School of Music in 1964, where she studied with Raphael Bronstein and Erica Morini.  Ms. Schiller taught strings in the Teaneck Public Schools from 1977 until she retired in 1998.  She is now teaching privately and performing in several orchestras and chamber groups and is delighted to be on the faculty at D-E.  Because Ms. Schiller is from a very musical family, she often performs "All in the Family" concerts with husband Allen (violinist from the NY Philharmonic), and daughters Jacqueline (piano) and Laura (flute).  Soon her three grandchildren Benji (6), Ariella (5), and Leora (3), will be joining them as well on 1/16, 1/8, and 1/4 size violins.
