MARILYN
GIBSON, VIOLIN
…began teaching at Dwight-Englewood in 2001.
Ms. Gibson serves on the faculty of the premiere Suzuki school
in the nation, The School for Strings, as well as on the Montclair
State University faculty. She has been an Associate
Professor of Violin at the C. W. Post College of Long Island
University. Ms. Gibson received her Master of Violin degree
from the Manhattan School of Music, where she was Concertmaster of
the orchestra. She graduated magna cum laude from East
Carolina University and was a member of the scholastic fraternity
Phi Kappa Phi. An active performer, she is the founder and
leader of The Herrick Trio and has been in the Iceland Symphony, the
American Ballet Theatre Orchestra, and Phantom of the Opera on
Broadway. She is also a poet and author, having recently
published her memoir, Hanging by a String. ANNALIESA
PLACE, VIOLIN
… joined the D-E faculty in 2002. She graduated
from the Peabody Conservatory and is currently studying at The
Juilliard School with Robert Mann. Other teachers have
included Vasile Beluska, David Russell, David Updegraff and Victor
Danchenko. She made her solo debut with the Heidelberg
Symphony at the age of twelve and has since appeared with the Ohio
Chamber Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, Concert
Artists of Baltimore and the Peabody Symphony. She has
appeared widely in the United States and Europe as a chamber
musician. In 2001-2002 Ms Place performed recitals at Carnegie
Hall's Weil Hall, the Millenium Stage at the Kennedy Center, and at
Alice Tully Hall. This year she will perform the Brahms'
Concerto with the North State (CA) Symphony. She began her
studies in a Suzuki program at the age of three and has been trained
as a teacher in the School for Strings teacher training program.
ELEANOR SCHILLER,
VIOLIN
...began teaching at D-E in 2002. She received
her Master's Degree in music education and violin performance from
The Manhattan School of Music in 1964, where she studied with
Raphael Bronstein and Erica Morini. Ms. Schiller taught
strings in the Teaneck Public Schools from 1977 until she retired in
1998. She is now teaching privately and performing in several
orchestras and chamber groups and is delighted to be on the faculty
at D-E. Because Ms. Schiller is from a very musical family,
she often performs "All in the Family" concerts with husband Allen
(violinist from the NY Philharmonic), and daughters Jacqueline
(piano) and Laura (flute). Soon her three grandchildren Benji
(6), Ariella (5), and Leora (3), will be joining them as well on
1/16, 1/8, and 1/4 size violins.
